The Forbidden Truth

March 1, 2008 | Share/Save

“Adam’s apple is so named because a piece of the Biblical forbidden fruit is supposed to have stuck in his throat. The name Adam itself is the Hebrew word for ‘man’. What sticks in our throat, then, is the… Forbidden Truth. When we manage to cough up the bolus and inspect it, what do we see? Not any kind of fruit (apple is not mentioned in the Bible), but a masticated mass of some not easily identifiable substance. Perhaps this is why the Forbidden Truth so often appears ‘chewed up’, transformed into metaphor, humor, satire, slang (or dream and myth, of course).”
