What sticks in our throat, then, is the… Forbidden Truth. When we manage to cough up the bolus and inspect it, what do we see? Not any kind of fruit (apple is not mentioned in the Bible), but a masticated mass of some not easily identifiable substance. Perhaps this is why the Forbidden Truth so often appears ‘chewed up’, transformed into metaphor, humor, satire, slang (or dream and myth, of course).”
