Art of the Gnostic Gospels
Jesus the Escape Artist
"Therefore, because he [Christ] was Mind, he did not suffer, but a certain Simon of Cyrene was impressed to carry his cross for him, and because of ignorance and error he was crucified [cf. Mark 15:21-24], transfigured by him so that he might be thought to be Jesus: and Jesus himself assumed the form of Simon and, standing by, laughed at them [cf. Ps. 2:4]… because he could not be held [cf. Ps. 2:3] and was invisible to all."
(St. Hippolytus of Rome, Refutation of All Heresies, vii. 20-27, From Robert. M. Grant, Gnosticism, pp.33-34, pub. A.D. 1961)
