The Pinks and the Con
There’s been a lot of discussion of various conspiracies and conspiracy theories over at Tim Boucher’s blog (see blogroll at right)/ It got me thinking about how I see conspiracies and conspiracy theory in general.
Just like the official narrative of any event gives it form and texture, and wipes away all of the disrepancies, questions and alternate explanations, so too the conspiracy theory serves as a counter-balance which restores some of the immediacy and relevance of the original event, as well as a reminder of the stubborn and persistent refusal of events to conform to human expectations and perceptions.
An event can have a dozen interpretations - but who do these interpetations serve? I am not saying that there is no such thing as absolute truth, just that there is very little we can know about it.
What do I think about all of the conspiracy theories that Bush knew about 9/11, or that the elites of both parties knew about 9/11, or that this represented a cynical gambit by shadowy plutocrats to accelerate the erosion of the lower and middle classes by facilitating a massive transfer of wealth upwards?
WHat about David Icke’s idea that wealthy elites around the planet either are (or are controlled by) extraterrestial “reptilians,” shapeshifting parasites who have stunted our growth as a species and prevent us from discovering our true, hyperdimensional forms?
I look at both of these storylines as sets of metaphors which are being used to describe some underlying by barly visible situation. Our minds not may even be able to understand what is going on, so this is how we perceive or mythologize it.
Is there a “real” conspiracy? A wise man once said “never blame on conspiracy what can be explained by stupidity.” How else to explain Rumsfield’s sudden shyness when confronted with footage of himself shaling hands with Saddam Hussein in the 1980s? Didn’t those jerks in the Pentagon make all of the same mistakes in the Vietnam era too?
I posted somewhere below about Hypno-politics - controlling populations through exhaustion, junk food, misinformation, social isolation, etc, etc. Are we being controlled right now? If so, for what end? What is the agenda?
I don’t think that our “overlords” are shape-shifting reptilians. Like any other humans they have triune brains - and these humans are domimated by their lizard brians. They are consumed with rituals of territoriality and agression, fascinated enough to seize power and start playing chess.
ANd why not? Most people don’t want that kind of power. We aren’t devious enough to plan for it. But still it is not difficult to imagine what their agenda is.
It is probably extremely long-sighted in one way, having taken decades to implement, but rather short-sighted too. I certainly would not put it past the people in power to behave like the aliens in “They Live” - to see their fellow humans and environment as something to colonize, train and exploit. The power will continue to flow upwards to a very small group of people who are content to engineer wars, transfer wealth and accelerate global warming.
Where do these people plan to live? is what I wonder. Answer: they aren’t really looking that far ahead. It is only a conspiracy insofar as it is possesses sophisticated means of communication and conceptualization, but aside from that it really might be just good-old fashioned self-destructive behavior from the talking monkeys.
What I am suggesting here is that the conspiracy may be an inevitable byproduct of our evolution. We may be like the bacteria which reproduce too rapidly in their Patri dish only to drown in their own waste products.
I take great comfort from the thought that even if that happens, many other species will continue to evolve, and one or more will eventually take our place.
