Politics-free zone

Like a lot of people lately, I’m a little obsessed with politics. To see the slow-motion takeover of the US by the forces of fascism and reaction is really nothing short of breaktaking. I’m going to try to avoid writing about them on this blog, though, for several reasons:

1. I have a love for intrigue, underhanded dealings, fake names and covert information warfare type maneuvers. I’ve had a lot of success setting up sites under other names in order to ridicule and undermine what I perceive as the forces of darkness. WHy blow my cover?

2. Ahhh… politics, schmolitics. I have a limited amount of patience for this stuff. Arguing with Republicans and Neo-cons is usually an exhausting exercise in futility. You can’t change their minds - the US is so polarized right now that it’s kind of like arguing about quantum mechanics with a flat-earther.

3. On a similar note, I used to get a lot of emails from people who objected to my interpretation of gnosticism back in 97-2001 or so, when the site had more material up. I would sit there and patiently walk my correspondent through all of the references only to discover, after multiple exchanges, that theyhad not even bothered to read past the first paragraph, or had never even heard or the Nag Hammadi scriptures! With a groan I would realize that I had just wasted 6 hours of my life I would never get back. Pearls before swine, baby.

4. You become what you fight. WHen you argue with idiots, you sink to the level of the idiot, and the control system that is controlling them begins to insinuate itself into your soul as you reach them on their level. They don’t budge, but you get altered - in your attempts to lead them, you acquire a permanent stopp. SO, it just ain’t worth it! All these things too shall pass away.

Empires rise and fall. The Portugese were once a world power, then Spain, France, England, Japan, and now the US. Who’s next? Probably China… my grandchildren will be speaking Mandarin. But so what? Taoist black magic, high slit dresses and snake blood soup, all courtesy the oldest culture on earth - is that really so awful?

The US has had a great run for 300 years but now its time to give someone else a chance. I sure as hell won’t do anything about it either way, but when the time comes, I will be the first in line to say, “I for one welcome our silk-clad overlords!”
